Skinny Improv 101

Skinny Improv 101 is more than just a fun class for all experience levels. It’s about more than improving your creative thinking, problem solving, and spontaneity. It’s way more than a place to build public speaking and social skills.
This is Skinny Improv 101- and it’s more than an ordinary improv class. The Skinny Improv launched the comedy scene in Springfield, and our specific methods and philosophies can’t be found anywhere else. It doesn’t matter if you want to be an actor- just that you want to grow and have fun.

Skinny Improv 201

Learn how to develop strong characters with distinct points of view, and take a deep dive into learning “game of the scene”. This is the level where you’ll learn about every type of scene you will ever encounter. Sound impossible? Nope, it’s totally improv-able (sorry about the pun. They aren’t part of our curriculum).

Students must have graduated Skinny Improv 101.

 

Skinny Improv 301

Date: October 1st, 2018
Time: Mondays, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Duration: 8 weeks (2 hour classes)
Cost: $150 with $20 deposit

In this class, you’ll break down improv into its most basic unit: the two person scene. Students will learn the valuable skills of grounding in reality and playing to the “top of your intelligence”. Part of The Skinny Improv’s signature style is quickly finding depth and meaning in scenes. This is where you’ll learn the techniques to do just that.

Students must have graduated Skinny Improv 201.

 

Skinny Improv 401

Longform! It means taking a single suggestion and making a whole show out of it. In this level, you’ll learn several popular longform formats, and how to navigate them. Beyond that, you’ll find out how to make them work for YOU and your group. You’ll also learn about Group Mind- how to almost psychically communicate with your teammates, and blow audiences away.

Students must have graduated Skinny Improv 301.

 

Skinny Improv 501

This is our masterclass. Jeff Jenkins will personally curate a curriculum for each class, meeting their needs. Learn super advanced tricks and techniques that will elevate your improv to true professionalism.

Sketch Comedy Writing 101

Date: September 29, 2018
Time: Saturdays, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Duration: 8 weeks

Learn how to take a funny idea and turn it into a hilarious comedy scene! In this class, students are given a solid foundation of tools and terminology for professional sketch writing. Students also receive extensive personal feedback, and participate in “table reads”. Students will be assigned at least one writing assignment a week.

Intro To Stand Up Comedy

Introduction to stand-up is for those who have been thinking about starting out on stage, but don’t know where to begin. If you have ever thought, “I could/should do stand-up,” then this class is for you.
Over the course of six weeks, stand-up comic of 13 years Doug Driesel Jr. will work with you to help you figure out the best way to write the jokes that reveal your inner voice. Focused on personal mentoring and peer review, Introduction to Stand-up will guide you to your true voice.
